Crime subcommittee meeting tomorrow

The government and the opposition are to continue discussions on how to curtail the country’s crime problem when they meet tomorrow.
National Security Minister, Colonel Trevor MacMillan, and Opposition spokesman on National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips are expected to meet with top security officials to discuss several issues arising from last week’s bipartisan talks.
The Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne is also expected to participate in the discussions.
Dr. Phillips said several legislative proposals regarding the recently completed Strategic Review of the Jamaica Constabulary Force will be finalised during the meeting.
He also said the government has agreed to collaborate with the opposition on the implementation of some of the recommendations as outlined in the report.
Dr. Phillips added that the PNP and the JLP have also agreed to join forces to create more practical ways of engaging the society in the country’s crime fighting strategies.
