Fishermen lose appeal

Four Jamaican fishermen, who were convicted in May last year for illegal possession of eight AK-47 rifles, two revolvers and 75 rounds of ammunition have lost their appeal.
They will have to serve their sentence of 15 years imprisonment each at hard labour.
The men were arrested and charged after the police saw them taking the guns and ammunition from a boat in St. Elizabeth on the early morning of December 19, 2006.
They are 57-year-old Arden Ebanks of Mitchell Town, Clarendon; 31-year-old Alvin Ashby; Carlington Parchment, 26; and 32-year-old Bryan Parchment, all of Newell, St. Elizabeth.
The Court of Appeal dismissed their case today and ordered that their sentence be effective from August 8, 2007.
