JUTC/Unions to meet Transport Minister
Transport Minister, Mike Henry is to meet with the unions representing workers at the state owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company, (JUTC) today.
Representatives from the University and Allied Workers Union, (UAWU) and the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees are to meet with Mr. Henry and the management of the bus company over a proposed redundancy exercise.
Vice President at the UAWU, Clifton Grant said the unions will be seeking to get Mr. Henry to resolve the dispute surrounding the redundancy exercise.
Mr. Grant is hoping an amicable solution with be reached at today’s meeting.
The unions will also be discussing the issue of third party payments for workers.
Workers at the bus company have been on edge for the past two weeks after the company issued redundancy letters to 230 workers.
JUTC has indicated that 500 workers will be sent home this month.
