A number of men have been taken into police custody following several shooting incidents in Spanish Town, St. Catherine yesterday.

In the first incident, two men, Basil Reid and Hervin Pettigroo were killed near the Oasis Plaza on March Pen Road.

The police say the men were at a shop about 8:15 last night when they were shot several times by four gunmen.

The incident reportedly forced commuters to seek refuge in the Spanish Town bus terminus.

Shortly after that, three persons were shot and injured by gunmen along Brunswick Avenue on the outskirts of the town.

One man was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Spanish Town has been plagued by a flare up of shootings in recent weeks.

A massive operation in the town last weekend resulted in the detention of 107 men.

Of the number, one man was charged for absconding bail on several gun related offences.

Police personnel from the Mobile Reserve and the Area 5 police division have since been deployed to several sections of Spanish Town.
