Toll fees hike
Motorists using the Portmore, Vineyards and Spanish Town toll roads have a little over a week to give feedback on the proposed toll increases.
The Gleaner reported on Saturday that Cabinet accepted a proposal for toll hikes of between
16. 6 percent and 66 percent, but would seek the public’s approval before implementation on July 1.
The Ministry said it would be receiving responses from members of the public to the published figures.
If accepted class one vehicles using the Vineyards Plaza will pay an increase of $40 moving the toll from $190 to $230.
Owners of class two vehicles will pay $310 from $230.
The operators of class three vehicles will be asked to pay an additional $100 moving the toll from $250 to $350.
Motorists travelling the Spanish Town route will see an increase of $10 and those using the Portmore toll road will pay an additional $40.
The Opposition People’s National Party said it is reserving its comments on the proposed toll hike until it sees how members of the public respond.
The party’s spokesman on Transport Robert Pickersgill said he would also be conducting his investigations, to determine if the increase is justified and whether the government will be continuing to subsidise the toll.
