Airline workers accept wage offer

Workers at Air Jamaica have decided to accept the management’s wage offer following the resignation of the airline’s board.



Vice president of the National Workers’ Union, Granville valentine, said the workers decided to accept the offer to safeguard against a future board withdrawing it.



Mr. Valentine said the union did not sign on behalf of the maintenance workers, who believe their previous increases were way below those of other groups.



News emerged yesterday that Minister without portfolio in the Finance Ministry, Senator Don Wehby had written to the board members requesting that they tender their resignations.



He said the decision by the government was in keeping with its plans for the new direction of the national airline.



He is expected to make a statement on the matter on Friday.
