Ochi robbers to appear in court

The five men who are charged in connection with a multimillion-dollar robbery in Ocho Rios, St. Ann on June 2 are to appear in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident magistrate court today.



The men were charged earlier this week, following intensive investigation by the Ocho Rios police.



Those charged are security guard Jason Mills, 30, of Ocho Rios, Rowe Gentles, 40, a construction worker of St. Ann’s Bay and Daniel Whorms, 30, a mason of Bamboo in the parish.



The police have also charged 36 year old Michael Patterson, a taxi operator also of Bamboo and Paul Gayle, 34, of Cumberland, St. Catherine.



The men have been charged with murder, robbery with aggravation and conspiracy to commit murder.



Gayle and Gentles are also facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.



The police reported that around 10.15 a.m. on June 2, a team of security guards went to an establishment at the Island Village shopping centre to make deliveries.



According to the police, while at the location, one of the guards, Gilbert Davis was left to secure the vehicle while his colleagues went inside the plaza.



The lone guard who was waiting in the parking lot was approached by a group of gunmen, who robbed him of the vehicle and money then opened fire killing him.
