PM to attend CARICOM meeting

Prime Minister Bruce Golding is expected to leave for Antigua and Barbuda on Monday to attend the 29th Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government.
He is scheduled to address the opening session of the four-day conference.
Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Winston Baldwin Spencer will chair the meeting.
It is expected that the proposed economic Partnership Agreement between CARIFORUM countries and the European Union will be high on the agenda.
On Sunday, the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) objected to regional government’s including a clause, which will give EU countries the same benefits as those given to developing countries.
Guyana\'s President Bharrat Jagdeo announced that his government may not sign the agreement.
Other agenda items include crime and security and governance of the Caribbean Community, enhancement of regional tourism and rising food prices.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Kenneth Baugh, Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Karl Samuda and Tourism Minister, Ed Bartlett will also attend the conference.
Minister of Water and Housing, Dr Horace Chang, will be in charge of the Government during the Prime Minister’s absence.
