JUTC Chairman shot dead

The chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC Douglas Chambers was shot dead just after 5 ‘o clock this afternoon.



Its understood that Mr. Chambers had taken a break from meeting with trade union representatives on the compound of the Spanish Town bus depot in St Catherine when he was shot several times.



Mr. Chambers was appointed Chairman of the state owned bus company shortly after the Jamaica Labour Party government took over the government.



The JUTC chairman had earlier received death threats during the period of negotiations regarding a restructuring exercise at the company.



AND Who is Douglas Chambers



Douglas Chambers became well known for his style of management when he was appointed to chair the JUTC last October by Minister of Transport and Works Mike Henry.



He was appointed to help control the huge losses of the government owned bus service, which lost up to 100 million dollars a month.



Chambers, who was a chartered accountant, took leave from his accounting firm Chambers, Henry and Partners to help to turn the JUTC in an efficient company.



He is a past student of Kingston College in Kingston.
