JA/Montserrat sign MOU
A high level team comprising representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and several government agencies are to visit Montserrat at the end of the month to carry out a study of specific services to be provided to the island.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the governments of Jamaica and Montserrat on Saturday.
The agreement will allow for collaboration on tourism, culture, education, health, sports, agriculture, and technical skills.
The MOU was signed between Prime Minister Bruce Golding and the Chief Minister of Montserrat, Dr. Lowell Lewis during a visit to the island by the Jamaican delegation, which was attending the heads of government summit in Antigua.
Tourism Minister, Ed Bartlett reportedly gave his commitment that Jamaica would share its skills and expertise in helping the island rebuild and market its tourism product.
While in Monsterrat, Prime Minister Golding also met with Jamaicans living on the island and addressed several concerns about providing them with an honourary consul to represent the Jamaican community.
