Opposition spokesman on health and the environment, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, is calling for the government to take a consultative approach to the matter of global warming.
Dr. Ferguson says while the signs of global warming are evident, the government has not been dealing with the phenomenon with the necessary urgency.
He says climate change has already been affecting the country’s coastal zones, the intensity of natural disasters and the impact on agriculture.
He is suggesting that the government host a national global warming conference and implement education programmes to inform Jamaicans of the implications of the issue.
Dr Ferguson says he will be seeking a meeting with Health Minister Rudyard Spencer to discuss the matter of global warming.
