Business operators reprieved

Small business operators in a building at 14 Caledonia Avenue in Cross Roads, St. Andrew could get a slight reprieve before the building is demolished.

The operators had until midnight to move out of the building, which was to be demolished tomorrow by the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

Town Clerk, Errol Greene said it is unlikely that the demolition will begin tomorrow as scheduled.

Mr. Greene discloses the information after meeting with the vendors this morning to listen to their appeal for an extension of the period of notice.

He said while the KSAC understands the plight of the business operators, but the demolition will take place.

Following a five-year legal battle, the KSAC won the right to demolish the building, which was erected without permission.

However, the business operators have argued that they were not aware of the legal fight.

The operators said that they need more time to relocate their businesses, some of which have been at the premises for more than 30 years.
