Major crimes increase
The police high command is reporting that there was an increase in all major crimes last month except for murders and rapes.
The crime statistics released earlier today reveal that eleven fewer people were killed in July when compared with the month of June.
In total 136 persons were killed in July with the St. Andrew south police division accounting for 21 of the murders.
According to the police a total of 81 persons were killed in the corporate area and St. Catherine alone.
The parish of St. James accounted for 19 of the 44 murders committed in rural Jamaica.
Portland was the only parish, which did not record a murder.
The police say seven fewer cases of rape were reported for July compared with the 54 cases in June.
However, shooting, robbery, carnal abuse, larceny and breaking continued to rise.
