The board at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, has reportedly approved the appointment of a new chairman for the state owned bus company.

The position became vacant in June following the death of the chairman Douglas Chambers who was killed by gunmen.

Transport Minister Mike Henry has since assumed the role of the chairman.

He told The Gleaner/Power 106 News today that he is hoping to announce the name of the new chairman by the middle of next week.

Mr. Henry says once all the documentation for the new chairman are in place by Monday, he will be taking the submission to the cabinet for approval.

Mr. Chambers was appointed JUTC chairman shortly after the government took office in September.

At the time of his death, he was involved in talks with the unions representing the workers at the JUTC over a planned redundancy exercise.

Two men who have since been charged in connection with his killing are in custody awaiting trial.
