Shelly-Ann Fraser scored a huge upset win in the women’s 100 metres at the Beijing Olympics as Jamaicans created history by grabbing the first three spots in the event this morning Jamaica time.

The little-known Fraser won in a personal best 10.78 seconds and her teammates Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart tied for second spot in 10.98 seconds.

This is the first time in Olympic history that one country has swept the first three spots in this event.

Fraser’s gold medal follows Usain Bolt’s astonishing performance to win the men’s 100 metres in a new world record.

The 21-year-old Fraser virtually led from start to finish, and enjoyed a lead of a couple of metres by the time she crossed the finish line.

World silver medallist Lauryn Williams of the US finished fourth in 11.03.
