Educators gather in Ocho Rios
Hundreds of educators are now gathered in Ocho Rios, St. Ann for the Jamaica Teachers’ Association’s (JTA) 44th annual conference.
During the conference, the incumbent president Ena Barclay will hand over the reins of leadership to Doran Dixon, a senior lecturer at the Mico University College.
Mr. Dixon said the status of salary negotiations with government would be one of the issues dominating the discussions.
Public school teachers have warned that their reclassification must be completed before they sign the next payment contract with the Government.
The teachers are seeking a 100 percent salary increase over the two-year contract period from 2008 to 2010.
The JTA’s annual conference is being held under the theme: ‘Building a culture of learning in schools: Enabling independent, enthusiastic and successful learners’.
