Illegal gun seized

The police in Trelawny have charged five men in connection with an illegal gun seized in the parish yesterday.



They have been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.



Those charged are Oniel Anderson, 23, of Dumfries, St. James; Renaldo Phillips, 24, and Vinroy Virgo, 21, of Cornwall Street in Falmouth.



Also charged are Kevin Carpenter, 21, and Oral Allen, 25, also of Cornwall Street in Falmouth.



The police say about 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon, members of the Island Special Constabulary Force were on an operation on the Burwood main road.



According to the police a Mitsubishi Lancer motorcar with five men aboard was stopped.



The police say they searched the vehicle and found a 9-millimeter pistol with six rounds of ammunition.
