Embattled Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz, is to return to court today to answer to charges of breaches of the Public order, and the Jamaica Constabulary Force Act.

He was charged after an incident on December 5, last year.

Mr. Vaz allegedly repeated expletives to Deputy Superintendent of Police Cornel Messam, during a political meeting.

The police also claim that Mr. Vaz refused to end the meeting, despite being told several times.

Mr. Vaz denied the allegations and said supporters of the JLP were only celebrating the party’s win at the local government polls.

He said the police had abused their power, and had threatened to over-run the crowd with their vehicles.

When the matter was last brought up in the Buff Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, in May, the prosecution requested more time to complete its case file.

Attorney-at-law, Tom Tavares Finson, represents the MP.
