The Government is to establish a five to seven member committee to plan a major celebration to welcome home Jamaica\'s athletes from the Beijing Games in China.

The Committee, which will initially be chaired by Prime Minister Bruce Golding, will also craft a long-term plan to honour the outstanding athletes.

An excited Prime Minister Bruce Golding made the announcement today, minutes after he spoke with the island\'s latest gold medallists Melaine Walker and Usain Bolt.

The Prime Minister said the achievement of the two champions and the other athletes in Beijing was a signal of how special Jamaicans can be.

Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell are to return to Jamaica on September 8.
