Andem case delayed

Former gang leader Joel Andem, 45, appeared in the Gun Court today, to face charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm.

The trial had to be put off today because a policeman who is one of the complainants is getting medical treatment abroad.

Andem is to return to court on November 24.

The Crown is alleging that in 2003 Andem fired shots at a police party in St. Andrew and escaped.

Andem was on the police’s most wanted list until he was captured in May 2004.

He is now serving a 20-year-prison sentence for shooting at the police.

Andem was sentenced in the Gun Court in November 2005.

He later filed an appeal against his conviction and sentence but the Court of Appeal dismissed it.
