Incentive scheme for teachers

The government is to introduce an incentive scheme for teachers to boost performance in the island’s public schools.

According to the Education Minister Andrew Holness, teachers have to be held accountable for the performance of their students.

He was speaking at the just concluded 44th annual conference of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA).

The issue of salaries was a major item of discussion at the conference.

The teachers have given the Government until tomorrow to present a full salary package.

The Government had failed to present a full package to the teachers, because it had not completed a survey to align the salaries of public school teachers to 80 percent of those in the private sector.
