Government to expand NHF
The Government has announced that it will be expanding the National Health Fund (NHF), in order to deliver better health care services to Jamaicans.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding made the disclosure last night, while addressing the 5th anniversary banquet and staff appreciation of the NHF.
According to Mr. Golding, in its five years, the NHF has made outstanding contributions to the national well being with 370,000 persons benefiting under the programme.
The Prime Minister said the provision of drugs and access to more affordable drugs was in need of serious attention.
He said the Government would be trying to address this concern.
Mr. Golding also said the administration would be implementing a public education campaign to sensitise Jamaicans on healthier lifestyles.
On April 1, the government introduced its free health care policy.
Under the policy, hospital user fees have been abolished including medications, but there have been numerous concerns about access to treatment.
