National Security Minister Colonel Trevor MacMillan is appealing to Jamaicans to support the police in their efforts to bring crime under control.

At the same time, he says the many challenges facing the police cannot be ignored.

According to the Minister its now time law-abiding citizens recognise that they too have an important role to play in crime fighting.

He was speaking at the funeral for slain police inspector Dennis Gardener at Lawrence Park in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann.

The service was attended by hundreds of people including Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardly Lewin who read a scripture lesson.

Inspector Gardener who was the Community Safety and Security Officer at the Hunts Bay Police Station was killed by gunmen on August 2.

Another policeman Corporal Rodney Henry, a firearm instructor at the Police Academy was killed only a few hours before.

Their killers are still at large.
