PM urges nation to seize Olympic moment
Prime Minister, Bruce Golding is urging the nation to seize the moment of hope given to Jamaica by its athletes in Beijing, China and end the crime and violence.
During a national broadcast last evening, he said Jamaicans should take advantage of the country’s Olympic glory, by uniting as a people to set new standards for themselves and their country.
According to him, the Jamaica’s athletes do not deserve to be embarrassed in their moment of glory by the country’s high incidence of violence.
Pointing to the potential for tourism promotion Mr. Golding said though the Games are over, the benefits to be derived have only just begun.
He said the Brand Jamaica campaign has been given a priceless springboard as the athletes have name-branded Jamaica.
Mr. Golding said the country’s successes in these Olympics also imposes a duty on the government to strengthen the institutional arrangements to support the continued development of athletics.
