Jamaicans to expect outbreaks of showers
The meteorological Service is advising that Jamaicans can expect outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms tonight as Tropical Storm Gustav moves across the Caribbean.
Gustav, which is the seventh tropical storm of the 2008 Hurricane Season, formed yesterday afternoon over the central Caribbean Sea, south of Hispaniola.
Gustav was moving toward the northwest at nearly 22 kilometres per hour yesterday and the Met office said a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected within another day.
It is predicting that the centre of Tropical Storm Gustav will continue to move northwestward towards the southwestern peninsula of Haiti this morning.
The met office said marine interests should exercise caution as wind and sea conditions will begin to gradually deteriorate this afternoon.
Fishers on the cays and banks should be on the alert and are advised to prepare for an evacuation, should it become necessary.
