The banana industry in the Windward islands has reportedly fully recovered from the damage caused by Hurricane Dean a year ago.

There were fears by many banana industry officials that production and export would not recover fully from the severe setback.

However, banana exporting company Wibdeco said Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent are exporting close to 1,100 tons of bananas a week, significantly more than for the period before Hurricane Dean.

CEO of WIBDECO, Bernard Cornibert, said the underlying trend in the industry is one of decline.
