Gustav watch still on

A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch remains in effect for Jamaica, as Tropical Storm Gustav pulls away from Hispaniola and moves closer to the island.

This means that hurricane conditions still pose a possible threat

while tropical storm conditions are expected to affect Jamaica within 24 hours.

The national Metrological Service says Gustav is expected to pass between Jamaica and Cuba by tomorrow afternoon.

Maximum sustained winds are nearly 60 miles per hour; however, Gustav should regain hurricane strength today or tomorrow as it moves away from Haiti.

Duty Forecaster at the Met Office Glenroy Brown said Gustav could become a category one hurricane by tomorrow.
