The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS says it expects to complete its assessment of damage to its systems by the end of today.

The JPS says an initial assessment revealed that 43 per cent of its customers are currently without power supply.

These customers are primarily in the parishes of Portland, St. Thomas, St. James and Westmoreland.

The JPS says patrols are already underway in the parishes of St. Thomas and Portland to ensure the safety of customers once the power supply is restored.

The company says its main focus is to identify and fix damage to its power systems including its power plants and transmission.

Its says once this phase of repair is completed, electricity will be restored to the main lines that provide electricity to essential services such as hospitals, airports, communication networks and water supply facilities.

Additionally the JPS says once the damage on the main transmission and distribution lines is fixed, attention will be given to the smaller lines and finally to individual customers with isolated problems.
