JPS restoration

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says approximately 80,000 of its customers are currently without service.

Communications Officer, Ruthlyn Johnson says while the restoration efforts are proceeding in some parishes, the progress is much slower in Portland, St Mary, St Catherine and St Thomas where there is extensive flooding and inaccessible roads.

Miss Johnson says efforts are being made to have JPS crews airlifted primarily to communities which are inaccessible in Portland.

She says about 20,000 customers had their service restored yesterday.

By the end of next week, JPS believe most persons without service should have their electrical power restored.
