The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) will today try to further reduce the number of people in shelters.

The director general of the ODPEM, Ronald Jackson, said over the weekend, the number of people in shelters dropped from more than 1,312.

He said 24 shelters remained opened up to late last night.

10 people have been confirmed dead, as a result of Tropical Storm Gustav.

However, the bodies of several others believed to be dead have still not been found.

The ODPEM said at least two health facilities are awaiting the restoration of electricity, but says all health systems are functioning.
