Amnesty deadline

Published:Monday | September 1, 2008 | 12:59 PM

Today is the last day for taxpayers to benefit from the 90 percent waiver on penalties and interest under the Tax Amnesty.

The 90 percent waiver was initially scheduled to expire yesterday.

A one-day extension was granted because tax offices were closed during the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav on Thursday and Friday.

The tax department is urging persons to pay their outstanding taxes in full today to benefit from the 90 percent waiver.

Payments made between tomorrow and September 30 will attract an 80 percent waiver on interest on penalties.

The penalties and interest on payments made in October when the amenesty ends, will be waived by 70 percent.
