Prison visits resume

The Department of Correctional Services is expected to resume visits to the country’s correctional facilities today.



The department had suspended visits to the prisons last week, after the island came under direct threat from Tropical Storm Gustav.



Head of Corrections Major Richard Reese said there was some damage to some of its adult and juvenile facilities.



Major Reese said minimal damage was done to some roofs and that there was flooding and disruption to its water supply systems.



He said the inmates at the Fort Augustus facility in St. Catherine who were relocated to the Horizon Remand centre before the storm have since returned.
