Chief Education Officer Jasper Lawrence said those schools which did not reopen this morning should be ready for classes next Monday.
The new school term was scheduled to start on Monday, but was pushed back to today to allow for clean-up activities and other preparations that were disrupted by the storm.
Tropical Storm Gustav significantly damaged at least eight schools in the eastern section of the island.
Several schools in other parishes were also severely affected.
Education Minister Andrew Holness said an estimate of the damage to schools should be completed by the end of this week.
