Special offer to settle tax arrears still on

Published:Tuesday | March 6, 2012 | 3:27 PM

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) said the special offer to taxpayers with overdue payments to visit its offices and make a proposal to clear the principal amounts owed, is on until March 31.

The tax authorities extended the offer in February, inviting taxpayers in arrears to propose a payment schedule to settle their principal sums owed, accompanied by a deposit, TAJ said in a release.

Once the proposals are accepted, outstanding interest and penalties will be placed in abeyance and re-examined at a later date.

To date more than 200 persons have responded to the offer and have made arrangements to settle J$200 million in outstanding taxes, TAJ said.

Others in arrears are being encouraged to visit any of the following offices and speak with the general manager: King Street, Constant Spring, Spanish Town, May Pen,Mandeville, St. Ann’s Bay and Montego Bay.

Alternatively taxpayers may call the customer care centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (829-4357) or any tax office for details of the offer.

“Failure to take advantage of this special offer will result in the tax authorities making a demand for the full arrears, inclusive of interest and penalties,” TAJ said.
