The National Water Commission, NWC says it has managed to complete over 50 percent of the work on the Rio Cobre pipeline in St Catherine which was severely damaged during the recent storm.

The Commission says customers served by this pipeline have begun receiving their water supplies and full restoration of service is expected by the end of the week.

According to the NWC most of the water systems, which remain out of service, are in East and West Rural St Andrew.

The challenges affecting the restoration of water supplies include blocked intakes, inaccessible roadways, dislocated pipelines, heavy siltation and absence of power supply.

The Commission says its having difficulty restoring normality to the Jacks Hill cross country pipeline from the Seaview Water Treatment Plant to the Jubba Springs Pumping Station in St Andrew.

It says while the repair work has started, the restoration effort will require the airlifting of pipes and construction equipment to the remote locations and the construction of reinforcement and support structures for the pipes.
