Harbour view ford hampered
The transport ministry said intermittent rainfall since last week has hampered the efforts of work teams building a ford at the Hope River in St. Andrew.
The ford is being built to allow heavy units and large vehicles access across the Hope River.
The Hope River Bridge, which links Harbour View to Kingston, was washed away during the passage of Tropical storm Gustav.
A bailey bridge has since been erected, but only small vehicles are being allowed to use it.
Communication manager at the transport ministry, Reginald Allen, said the work teams are facing serious challenges in erecting some culverts.
He said a major construction firm has agreed to assist in sourcing some specialised equipment to mount the culverts.
Mr. Allen said despite the delay the ministry expects the ford will be completed soon.
