Bungles returns to court
Former head of the St. Catherine North police, Superintendent Harry ‘Bungles’ Daley, is scheduled to return to court today on corruption charges.
Superintendent Daley has been charged with six counts of extortion and six counts of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.
He was offered bail in the sum of $1 million with surety when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s court last month.
Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown ordered that Superintendent Daley report to the Police Commissioner’s office three times a week.
The magistrate also ordered the policeman to be at home between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Superintendent Daley was arrested in early August during a sting operation in downtown Kingston, which was set up the Anti Corruption Branch.
The prosecution is alleging that Superintendent Daley collected approximately $65,000 from the operator of a plaza in St. Catherine.
The money was to offer protection for the plaza.
The prosecution is also alleging that the money was being paid in installments since May last year.
According to the prosecution, there is video and audio evidence against Superintendent Daley.
Since the start of this year, more than 50 members of the force have been charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.
