Tax amnesty almost over

Businesspersons and individuals who owe taxes have less than a week to benefit from the 80 percent waiver on interest and penalties under the tax amnesty programme.

The tax administration department says that as of October 1, the waiver amount will be reduced to 70 per cent.

It says the 80 per cent relief will be granted across all tax types, once taxpayers pay the principal sum owed in full.

The tax department said when the amnesty ends on October 31, it will be pursuing an aggressive tax compliance programme.

The department says taxpayers should use the remaining weeks of the tax amnesty to register their businesses and file all outstanding returns.
