Drivers re-certification programme coming
The Transport Minister revealed a new driver re-certification system is coming.
This is part of the proposals under the amended Road Traffic Act.
Under the new system, drivers will have to be re-tested every 15 years to get a new driver’s license.
Mr Henry said driving schools will also have to be licensed and taxis will have to be colour coded.
He was responding to a private members motion brought earlier by the Member of Parliament for Central Kingston, Ronnie Thwaites.
In resolution Mr Thwaites, raised concerns about the transport system.
He said many road fatalities were the result of driver incompetence and defective vehicles
According to Mr Thwaites a driver retesting programme and other changes to the road traffic act could be a solution.
