The National Works Agency (NWA) said it has completed its cleaning of more than 120 critical drains in flood prone areas across the island.

Manager of communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said of the over 120 drains cleaned, 33 were located in Kingston and St. Andrew and 18 in Clarendon.

20 drains were also cleaned in St. Thomas and 26 in St. Catherine.

Mr. Shaw said the drain cleaning was part of phase one of a programme developed by the NWA to protect the main road network through effective flood control methods.

He said critical drains cleaned include the Boucher, New Haven, Riverton City and Cut Throat Gullies in Kingston and St. Andrew.
