The names of the policemen have not been released, as they are to face an identification parade.

The men are being investigated for allegedly extorting $100,000 from an American who was wanted by US authorities.

One of the two policemen is a constable attached to the Savanna-la-Mar police station, while the other is a special corporal attached to the Little London police station.

A third cop said to be involved in the robbery is still on the run.

He is attached to the Savanna-la-Mar police station.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that money was taken from the American who was staying in the country illegally.

The American, 33-year-old Mark Christopher Blanton of Florida, was arrested by the police in Westmoreland last week.

He was brought before the Savanna-la Mar Resident Magistrate’s court on Tuesday for breaching the Immigrant Act and was ordered deported to the US.

Blanton fled to Jamaica in 2003 after he was implicated in a number of crimes in the US.

He is wanted in America for felonious assault, armed kidnapping, drug trafficking and other offences.
