School bus service not feasible

Transport Minister, Mike Henry said a school bus service in the corporate area will not be feasible until schools are zoned.

Last week Convenor of Hear the Children Cry, Betty-Ann Blaine suggested that a school bus system be introduced to help protect children from criminals.

She was speaking against the background of a spate of crimes against children, and according to her most of these crimes are committed as children travel to and from school.

But Mr. Henry said a school bus system is not logistically possible.

Mr Henry added the ministry has in place a number of mechanisms geared towards protecting children as they use the Jamaica Urban Transit Company’s service.
