Ochi police operation
The police in Ocho Rios, St. Ann say they will be continuing a drive started this today to get bus and taxi operators in the resort town to use the transportation centre.
There have been several confrontations between the police and some drivers who continue to operate from different locations in the town.
This morning many operators were forced to operate from the transport centre as police personnel were placed at strategic locations throughout the town.
The police seized 35 taxis and buses during the operation.
Superintendent Clifford Herron at the Ocho Rios police said while there was about 85 per cent compliance today the police will continue their patrols until there is full use of the facility.
Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Ivan Anderson said the parish council is aware of the concerns raised by the operators and will be moving to address them.
However, the mayor said the council is awaiting local government funding to begin work on the transportation centre.
