Grade 4 literacy success

The education ministry has disclosed that more students are gaining mastery in the Grade Four Literacy Test.



The ministry said results from the recent sittings of the literacy test which students sat in May and June revealed that 81 per cent of the students achieved mastery.



There was an increase of 9 per cent in the number of students who mastered in all three components.



The ministry said 71 per cent of the students in government schools mastered Word Recognition, Reading Comprehension and Communication Task.



Meanwhile 15 per cent of the students attained mastery in one or two componets while 12 per cent failed to master any of the components.



The ministry said it continues to work in an effort to achieve its target of 85 per cent mastery by 2010 and ultimately 100 percent mastery of all grade 4 students.
