JHTA call emergency meeting
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has called an emergency meeting for this afternoon in Ocho Rios, St Ann to discuss the likely impact the world financial crisis is likely to have on the tourism sector.
President of the JHTA, Wayne Cummings said players in the industry will be meeting to discuss among other issues the position of the different tourism markets to determine how vulnerable they are to the financial fallout.
Mr Cummings revealed special emphasis with be placed on the United States, Europe and Canada as well as other developing markets.
The JHTA president said the association will also be discussing with its members and tourism investors bookings for the 2008 winter tourism sector and beyond.
Meanwhile, Mr Cummings said he is concerned about the bookings for this winter’s tourist season.
Bookings for the rest of the year are strong but many of those bookings are from people who already made deposits, he added.
