Former Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), Huntley Medley is refuting claims that he was fired because he had a difficulty working with the Agency’s Advisory Board.

Information Minister Olivia Grange explained that there was difficulty in the working relationship between Mr. Medley and the Advisory Board.

However, Mr. Medley said at a meeting of the 10 member board to which he was invited, he tried to discourage the board from taking unto itself powers that it does not legally have.

He said at a meeting on July 22, he reminded the board members of the provisions of the Executive Agencies Act of 2002 and that he was bound as CEO to abide by the provisions of the Act.

Mr. Medley further explained that while he was receptive to receiving advice from the board, he could not treat with directives from the members since that body at present has no authority in law or policy to issue any such directive.

Chairman of the Advisory Board, Neville James, said he did not see the role of the board as being harmful to the working relationship with Mr. Medley.
