No money for drains
Residents of Mount Edgecombe and Cardiff Hall in Runaway Bay, St Ann will have to wait a while longer before the poor drainage problem threatening homes in those communities is addressed.
This was disclosed by managing director of the Housing Agency of Jamaica (formerly the national housing development corporation), Joseph Shoucair.
Speaking at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the St Ann parish council, Mr Shoucair said the construction of the drains is expected to cost over $200 million, which the agency cannot afford.
He added that while the agency is fully aware of the serious threat to houses in the area, there is nothing it can do to address the problem at this time.
The councillor for the area, Winston Lawrence, is upset over what he has described as the housing agency’s lack of concern for the plight of the affected residents.
