‘Gov’t could be misleading public’ - PNP
The opposition is accusing the government of withholding some of the details of recent changes in the public procurement guidelines.
The opposition says there are several categories for which the exemptions will apply that the government has not disclosed.
The government had announced exemptions for certain procurements for Air Jamaica, Petrojam Limited, The Jamaica Tourist Board and Jamaica Vacations Limited.
But the opposition says a release signed by acting financial secretary, Darlene Morrison has shown that the exemptions also apply to procurement of Legal Services, Artistic and Cultural products and services including works of art and performance services.
The Opposition believes the withholding of this information could be an attempt by the government to mislead the public.
Dr Davis says while the opposition recognises the need to make provisions for emergency procurement, as the manner in which the exercise is currently being implemented is unacceptable.
He wants the matter to be examined by parliament with input from the office of the contractor general.
In light of the changes in the procurement rules for cultural and creative products, Dr Davis said he would like to know whether they apply to the recent national gala celebrations.
