Sand theft investigations ongoing
The police High Command is seeking to assure the public that investigations into the theft of sand from a development site in Coral Springs, Trelawny is ongoing.
In July, 500 truckloads of sand were reportedly stolen from the site, which was earmarked for an $8 million development.
Yesterday, the People’s National Party (PNP) raised concern about the pace of the investigations.
Communications Director at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Karl Angell, has described the case as complex.
Mr. Angell said the case involves many government and private agencies, as well as other individuals.
He said while the JCF acknowledges that the case is of national interest it will not be rushed into making conclusions until thorough enquiries are completed.
Mr. Angell said forensic tests are continuing on samples taken from several sand sites.
The police had earlier identified a site where they believed the stolen sand had been dumped.
Last month, Industry and Commerce Minister, Karl Samuda said the samples taken from that site did not match the sand, which was stolen.
The JCF said it’s working closely with other agencies in an effort to expedite the progress of the investigation.
