Labour ministry intervenes at Love FM
The Labour ministry has intervened in a dispute between the National Workers’ Union (NWU) and radio Station, LOVE FM.
On Tuesday, the NWU wrote to the ministry claiming several labour relations breaches at the radio station.
Vice president of the NWU, Granville Valentine says the NWU is currently in negotiations to obtain bargaining rights for some workers at the station, but he says some of the actions of LOVE FM can be perceived as union busting.
On Monday, Mr. Valentine said the station issued a redundancy letter to a worker in breach of labour regulations.
The redundancy would have taken effect at the end of the month.
But, Mr. Valentine says the company has since issued another letter making the position redundant with immediate effect.
Mr. Valentine says he is hoping the labour ministry will hold a meeting with the union and LOVE FM before the end of the week.
